Dahlia seed

To order seeds.....

These are seeds from my plot, mainly a mix of new varieties and my website varieties.

A mix of DOUBLE classifications.

There is a small amount available so it's on a first come basis.

UK shipping only.

Approx 15 seeds to an envelope, plus a couple more

£10.00

£2.20 postage

Please be aware seeds do not run true to parent, they are all new babies, so you will end up with a couple lacking petal and ones where you go. Oh ok.

Like we all do whether growing 10 or 1000.

To order seeds please send an email below to include your name and address.

I do old school transfer or you can use PayPal. Let me know in the email.

The seed heads are in various stages of drying and already dried

The seed packets are ready to go

My job when finished supper and actually sitting down

The addiction starts from those seed heads

For me growing from seed is the most exciting bit of growing Dahlias!!!

These are bee pollinated seed, they are all very different shapes and sizes. Some of the varieties produce teeny tiny ones, but you never would guess when they germinate.

A few can germinate a week later than the the first which has popped up.....

The higher the petal count seedlings can take a bit longer.

So don't be chucking them.....

Depending on numbers I'm growing my seeds are started the last week of March to the first week in April, they grow fast and strong extremely quickly, so I am looking to get them in the ground as early as possible after the frosts.

I use seed trays with lids popped on my benches, a good seed compost and a light covering of vermiculite. Only if the weather is dull and i have room, they go under my lights.  I then prick the seedlings out and pot them on.

Germation rate is normally good.

Its the best way I find for myself to do them. There are so many ways you can try.

They are planted 30 cms apart and as they bloom any singles are pulled.

This allows more space for the others to get up and going.

The only time I don't pull something is if hasn't had the space or enough water when its about to start forming embryo buds, as it may have blown centers and poor petal production.

Chances of a fully double flower from my seed is pretty high due to not growing single or collarettes on the plot, but genetics and production factors will play a big part in them being single or few layer petal types.

All the seeds are from the same mix I plant myself.

You never know what you're going to get..... This is a mix of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year seedlings.
